Position Overview

A respected law firm in Cleveland is seeking a Business Litigation Counsel to join its litigation practice. This role offers hands-on responsibility across all phases of litigation, including pleadings, motion practice, discovery, and court appearances.

The position is ideal for a litigation attorney who wants meaningful case ownership while working within a collaborative, client-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial litigation matters from inception through resolution
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery documents
  • Conduct legal research and prepare case strategy analyses
  • Represent clients in hearings, conferences, and court proceedings
  • Participate in depositions, mediations, and settlement negotiations
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding case status and strategy
  • Maintain case files, deadlines, and litigation calendars
  • Collaborate with partners and litigation team member.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of litigation experience (law firm preferred)
  • Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills
  • Experience drafting substantive litigation documents
  • Courtroom or hearing exposure preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Team-oriented and client-focused mindset

Bar & Professional Requirements

  • Active license to practice law in Ohio
  • Good standing with the Ohio Supreme Court
  • Compliance with CLE and professional responsibility obligations
  • Eligibility for firm malpractice coverage
  • Successful conflicts and background review

  • Alternative dispute resolution exposure (mediation/arbitration)
